Marcellus Shale ballot discussion on 1/5, not 1/3.
The agenda for the Tuesday January 3, 2012 Pocahontas County Commission meeting misleadingly lists "10. Discussion and/or Action – Marcellus Shale Drilling Ballot Issues." This item was added by Martin Saffer, despite commission majority decision to resume this discussion at a special evening meeting of Thursday January 5, 2012 beginning at 6:00PM, and not before then. I (David Fleming) will not support discussion or action of any kind on this matter on Tuesday, and I will only resume this matter on Thursday, January 5 beginning at 6:00PM. I have spoken with Jamie Walker about this confusing Tuesday agenda item, and he too has stated that he will not entertain anything on this matter until the Thursday January 5 meeting "at the earliest." We ran an ad in this week's Pocahontas Times (12/29) announcing the special Thursday January 5 meeting, that begins at 6:00PM, on Marcellus shale ballot issues. This ad will run again in next week's Pocahontas Times (1/5), which will actually circulate locally on Wednesday (1/4). The reason for scheduling the special meeting for Thursday evening of January 5 is so that more people could attend. The reason for running two ads in the Pocahontas Times is for getting the word out as much as possible. It is unfortunate that this has been contradicted by Mr. Saffer, and I apologize that this has caused much confusion and even mistrust. Rest assured that no majority discussion or action of any kind will take place regarding Marcellus shale on Tuesday January 3. Have a Happy New Year, and I hope you can attend at 6:00PM on Thursday January 5, 2012, at the Pocahontas County Courthouse and participate in the discussion of Marcellus shale ballot issues. Sincerely, |
