I'd like to see just one well...............
I'd like to see just one Marcellus gas well plunked down smack in the middle of Little Levels District to watch the reality set in and dispel the clouds and mist of denial. Imagine the noise, the lights, the traffic, the smell, the overall chaos visited upon the neighbors and community. It is one thing to count your windfall bucks in your mind and quit another to look your neighbor in the face when he is having to pay for your profit by giving up the peace and enjoyment of his property and community and perhaps the loss of his water and thus his land. I think that there will be great and serious tension and misgivings between folks if this ever comes about and I worry that the reality of it all has not been fully appreciated. |

I don't think you will ever have to worry about a gas well in Poca., no delivery lines and on the perimeter of the formation just doesn't make for good drilling prospects. |

Re: I'd like to see just one well...............
There's already one deep gas well producing, and another being drilled, in northern Pocahontas County. As for a "clean well," it's not required by State or Federal regulations. Studies in Pennsylvania show that the closer a water well is to a deep gas well the more contamination is likely. I'm all for making good use of our natural resources. All of them. Including clean water and unspoiled beauty. It is folly to allow the use of any single resource to destroy the value of the others. For example, to enjoy the use of my truck I need to change the oil. But I don't drain the old oil out into my garden. I want to use both my truck and my garden, so I give the waste oil to Buster. Same with drilling for gas. It can be done with enough care to avoid harm to our other resources. But only if we care enough to demand that State legislators write adequate protection into the law. Draft legislation would require fracking wells to protect coal seams but not to protect drinking water. And there is no long-term protection for surface owners or for people who depend on water from wells or springs. What's with that? If drilling prospects were not good, gas companies would not be paying for drilling rights. Ignoring a problem will not make it go away... -- Rich |

Re: I'd like to see just one well...............
You give your waste oil to Buster, who most likely burns it in a waste oil heater, which begs the question has that burner been tested or the emissions been tested so I know you and buster are not polluting our air. When you give your oil away does your responsibility end there? Which brings up another point, how many of the Hispanics have green cards that have found lodging in the Durbin area? I understand when the feds came in a few years back that something like 4 out of 30 were found to be legal. |

If everyone were responsible and protective of other people, the environment and the future we wouldn't need regulations. Unfortunately, there are plenty of people and organizations who don't play fair. In the real world, the law and regulations are the only thing standing between most citizens and an early, miserable death. -- Rich |

Re: I'd like to see just one well...............
You could ask vista---I do not remember the date. It was after Durbin became a corporation. apparently .The greenbrier is not flowing with saltwater you know so I imagine the animal hair would be intact on the journey to someones kitchen..Cowtails,hoofs or hooves? How long does human hair last in lavatory plumbing? You may have missed the message entirely. It is not a lesson in hechanical engineering of hair and water;rather it is about concern or lack of it for others. |

Oh, I got that message a long time ago. But the concept of characterizing an entire county population based on the actions of a corporation - well, I just thought it might be a good idea to change the subject. But thanks for the information. |
