Gas Well Gas Field

One jarring conclusion brought home to many last night at the public meeting was the realization that we are not talking about gas wells but a gas field to be over laid across the entire county.

Re: Gas Well Gas Field

I have worked in the Buckhannon/Clarksburg area the last few weeks, a vibrant economy!
I spoke with many industry people and I am more convinced then ever that gas extraction can be done in a responsible way, but also I believe this environmental responsibility will not be given freely but only through stiff regulation and penalties to violators.
The fees need to be high enough to finance this regulation.
People making $2000.00 but the employee turn over is high because of the hard work andlong hours.
The workers in this field I find to be hard working good people that are willing to help you in any way.

Re: Gas Well Gas Field

All of the Pocahontas Commissioners should be applauded for the first hand investigation of Marcellus drilling. Sadly, under the current state of the law, they are powerless to do anything about it. The article in this week's Pocahontas Times was excellent; it would have been more relevant had those (State Senators and Delegates) who will actually vote on Marcellus regulations been the folks on the tour of the devastation brought upon those poor Wetzel County residents.
The Times article is just more proof that meaningful protections to our water supplies are sorely needed.
To those who have already leased or those thinking about it, ask yourself whether you are ready to surrender your way of life, your land, and your water. And consider this big question: If Marcellus shale drilling is so safe, then why is the gas industry spending hundreds of millions of dollars advertising that this drilling is so safe?
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out: it is not safe and the dangers are well documented with serious environmental problems cropping up everywhere this drilling commences. To combat these documented problems, the gas industry has engaged in false advertising to convince us it is safe.

Re: Gas Well Gas Field

One other passing thought:

Why is the gas industry fighting the proposed regulation that they disclose the residency of the workers they will employ?
The gas industry has told us (in their concerted effort to convince us this is a good thing) that countless jobs will be created in West Virginia by such drilling. So what's the big deal, gas industry? Please just tell us about all those West Virginia residents working for you.
Well, folks, this is just another gas industry scam. A false promise of jobs in return for us turning a blind eye to the dangers of Marcellus drilling.
The fact is that most of the employees are out of state employees (i.e., no or very insignificant local job creation). And that is why they are fighting the aforementioned proposed regulation. They don't want folks to know that most, if not all, the jobs will not come from WV residents.

This proposed regulation is needed to reveal this gas industry scam. But it needs to go further. The regulation should REQUIRE that the drillers employ at least 50% of their workforce from WV residents. Then they can tell us with a straight face that they are creating the jobs that will ruin permanently our environment.

I have one and only one conclusion to draw from everything I've read and seen about Marcellus drilling:

NO FRACKING WAY!
