College Graduation In Marlinton
Yesterday at the Opera House, I and my wife Sheila, who is a RN, attended commencement ceremonies for the Pocahontas County Cohort of the School of Practical Nursing of New River Community and Technical College. Four LPN's received their pins in front of a very large and supportive crowd. This was a milestone event for Pocahontas County. Instead of Paul Revere yelling about the British coming, it has been Roger Trusler yelling "College is coming....College is coming!" And with the support of many many county citizens helping Roger, College has now come to Pocahontas County. What a day!!!!!!This shows me that a community college is a community effort and a community success. The nursing home, the hospital, the high school, the workforce center, the rotary, the county commission, and the teachers, administrators and students working in a common vision. This is Pocahontas County at its best and this is just the beginning. Remember, New River is already offering free college starter courses in Marlinton right now. More will come. |
